"For No Good Reason".  Your expanding bureaucracy in action.

U.S. Citizens Thrown Off Medicaid for No Good Reason

Well, in a country in which only 20 percent of the population even owns a passport, and in which the poorest are the least likely to have documentation, what did anyone expect? But the worst part of this is that this was part of a "Deficit Reduction Act." See, the United States didn’t have a deficit a mere six years ago; it was running a record surplus. And it was running that surplus without robbing tens of thousands of poor families of their [...]

Kudos to CNN for letting Thomas Roberts speak out.  It really is quite spectacular.  And is story is heart-wrenching and disturbing.

CNN’s Roberts Recounts Tale Of Childhood Sexual Abuse By Priest

The Most Trusted Name In News is now the news itself: CNN is heavily promoting its exclusive interview with anchor Thomas Roberts, who has come forward with his story of teenage sexual abuse by a Catholic priest. Roberts, a CNN Headline News anchor since 2001, came out of the closet during last September’s Lesbian and Gay Journalists Association conference. The story currently has prominent front page placement on CNN.com, with the "Full Story" link leading to Roberts’ detailed first person account of his relationship with Father Jerome F. Toohey, Jr., whom he approached for guidance during [...]

Schumer: Let’s Hear from Karl

In light of recent revelations, Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) thinks the Senate Judiciary Committee ought to hear from Karl Rove. And today, he asked the committee to call on Rove to testify. He explained in a statement: “The more we [...]

8th paper dumps Coulter

The Human Rights Campaign and Media Matters launched campaigns last week to have people contact the newspapers that syndicate Ann Coulter’s columns (after she called John Edwards a "faggot," and then repeated the comment the next day). The 8th newspaper has just dropped her. This is [...]

CLIPS: O’Reilly to viewer: "Your so-called compassion helped kill those children" in Bronx fire

On the March 9 edition of Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor, host Bill O’Reilly responded to an email from a viewer complaining about his statement the previous day that the victims of a March 7 fire in the Bronx in which one adult and eight children were killed "may be illegal aliens" by stating: "Your so-called compassion helped kill those kids." He later added: "It’s people like you, [viewer], who promote that kind of chaos in the name of compassion, who look the other way while poor workers and children are exploited by [...]

And They’re Being Sent Back To Fight

March 12, 2007 · Leave a Comment

To fight some more. There are more than just a few things wrong with this picture. WAY more than just a few.

‘Some are too injured to wear their body armor’

Given the reports lately about the Bush administration neglecting injured troops and sending additional soldiers into combat without the necessary equipment, I suppose it was only a matter of time before the two narratives were combined — sending injured troops into battle without the protection they need. In Salon today, Mark Benjamin has the painful and [...]

Global Warming

March 12, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Welcome back to a new week, filled with new "stuff" to talk about.  Hope you had a fun and relaxing weekend. We were starting on some "spring cleaning", in advance of our son’s wedding next month, plus there were a couple of really important Arkansas Razorback basketball games to keep an eye on. Priorities, I know…..

But, it’s time to get back to work.  Stealing a few moments over lunch at the desk, there’s time for a couple of posts worth tracking. Let’s start with one of our favorite issues – global warming.

New IPCC Report: Effects of Global Warming Very Hazardous to Mankind

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), has released a draft (the proposed chapter outine can be found at this .pdf file link) of the second of 4 scientific reports to be included as part of its "Climate Change 2007" Fourth Assessment Report. This document, prepared by the IPCC’s Working Group II, is titled: Climate Change 2007: Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerabilities. Based on the efforts of roughly 1000 scientists, this draft report is not likely to change significantly when the final version is approved early next month. The draft report’s [...]

UPDATE:  So, who’s really worried about Global Warming? You and your neighbors.

Poll: Americans are worried about global warming.

A new Gallup poll finds that a majority of Americans are worried about the effects of global warming, including more powerful hurricanes (69 percent), more common flooding/droughts (67 percent), and rising ocean levels (63 percent). A recent Fox News poll found that 82 percent of [...]
