He really didn’t need to jump into the middle of this -
Former Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke’s bank account must be low, so it looks like he’s appealing to the "lynch the Jena 6" crowd for some scratch. It helps that his white supremacist friends have published the home addresses and phone numbers of the families of the young men. "The people of Jena, the people of Louisiana and I are not racist. We simply want justice to be done. We understand that White people in [...]

Shuster in for Tucker tonight. Ouch. He really went for the juglar in this interview..
Tucker substitute host David Shuster confronts Rep. Martha Blackburn (R-TN) about the blatant hypocrisy of the Republican party when he asks about Rush Limbaugh’s Senator Betrayus smear against Senator Chuck Hagel and all Blackburn wants to do is rehash tired slams against the New York Times over the MoveOn ad. As Blackburn prattles on about [...]

From Northwest Arkansas, comes an excellent bit of research and video editing, via Arkansas Tonight. It’s a revamped blog (Don, where are you??), but this one deserves a few minutes of your attention.
We couldn’t be more proud of this video. This was put together by Billy Vegas, who is a long-time friend of this blog and is a friend that goes back years before this blog. We think he did a great job of using video to repeat what will be some of the most important accusations and unanswered questions of the past eight years. We know the answers really, we just don’t know why everyone wants to pretend none of this happened. Like Billy points out in this, the problem is truth. That’s what [...]

It’s Monday. Time for a fresh start to a new week. Not a good weekend, football-wise. There’s gonna be lots of fallout after Arkansas’ loss to Kentucky Saturday night. We may have to address some of that before the evening is over. Suffice it to say, for now, that there’s a new AD headed for the Hill and it could prove interesting. Just my gut feeling, mind you. The Iranian Prez is in New York. We’ll get around to that. But, we’re going to start tonight with a post that has it roots right here in the South.
Krugman: Politics in Black and White
The controversy surrounding recent events in Jena, La., and the criminal charges against the Jena Six, stems in part from the shocking qualities of the story. Most decent people across the country look at the systemic and ugly bigotry, and wonder how these conditions can still exist in the 21st century. Paul Krugman makes the case [...]

Talk about pulling the political strings….
Iraq Relents on Blackwater Bush to ask for Nearly $200 bn.
The Iraqi government is backing off its demand that the Blackwater security firm be expelled from Iraq in the wake of apparently unprovoked shootings that left 11 Iraqis dead, according to the LAT. Apparently the argument has been made to Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki that the 1,000 Blackwater guards who escort US embassy personnel would have to be replaced by troops, who would have to be pulled out of their current attempt to drive Sunni Arab militants out of [...]

And the war planning continues…
Secret US Air Force Team to Perfect Plan for Iran Strike
Sarah Baxter reports for The Sunday Times UK: "The United States Air Force has set up a highly confidential strategic planning group tasked with ‘fighting the next war’ as tensions rise with Iran. Project Checkmate, a successor to the group that planned the 1991 Gulf War’s air campaign, was quietly reestablished at the Pentagon in [...]

Iran’s President popped up on 60 Minutes Sunday night and followed that confusing interview with a speech this afternoon in New York City. Let’s begin with the 60 Minutes interview -
60 Minutes: Ahmadinejad plays coy
60 Minutes’ Scott Pelley sat down with Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for what can only be termed a surreal interview. Pelley was combative for most of the interview, White House talking points quite literally in hand. Ahmadinejad’s responses were frustratingly equivocal. It sparked a great debate in my home as to why…if Ahmadinejad does want [...]
The New York Times live-blogged the speech this afternoon AND the surprisingly negative introduction from the college president!-
City Room: Columbia’s President Confronts Iranian Leader
More live-blogging from a Conservative point of view, linking to the very-liberal Daily Kos -
Ahmadinejad’s Columbia Speech, Thread 2
UPDATE: Further thoughts – Ahmadinejad speaks
Working with a Republican Congress for six years, the Bush White House has written federal budgets that grew at a rate of 7% per year — double the rate of growth under Clinton. According the Heritage Foundation and the Cato Institute, both conservative think tanks, even nonmilitary discretionary spending has blossomed under Bush, far more [...]

This is really sad. Such a blatant way to skew a political poll against two candidates.Honestly, I’m betting this is not a big-name pollster. Still, the poll is being bought and paid for by someone!
One possible reason Kucinich and Gravel are low in the polls?
The pollsters aren’t asking about them: My New Hampshire phone rings (caller ID 000-000-0000 WTF?)and I pick it up out of curiosity. “This is (talking like a magpie so I haven’t got a clue what the name of the company is) Research. Would you like to be part of a poll for the Democratic [...]

The population of a rather exclusive group is growing. And their collective voice is one that should be heard…
More than 20 retired generals speak out against Iraq war.
“In op-ed pieces, interviews and TV ads, more than 20 retired U.S. generals have broken ranks with the culture of salute and keep it in the family. Instead, they are criticizing the commander in chief and other top civilian leaders who led the nation into what the generals believe is a misbegotten and tragic war.” [...]

That, by way of definition, is what Keith Olbermann is up to these days..
“Goodness gracious, how much trouble can I get into?”
SportsBusiness Journal’s “One-on-One” talks to Our Mr. Olbermann: What do you think of this notion of Condoleezza Rice as NFL commissioner that pops up in seemingly every profile of her? OLBERMANN: With no offense to Mr. Goodell, I think it would be a better utilization of her talents. And if we could arrange it promptly … [...]

Donnie does a good job of backing away and getting the big picture on the Jena 6 story out of neighboring Louisiana.
About the Jena Six
The story has now become so political, and should make everyone stop and think really hard. The righties are viewing it as one thing, and the lefties are seeing it as another. But there are a few things people have forgotten. This is about racism in a Louisiana town. This has nothing to do with [...]

It was a thoroughly enjoyable documentary of the behind-the-scenes workings of Bill Cliinton’s presidential campaign, but it looks like Hillary’s camp isn’t going to be as open. In fact, just the opposite..
Story on Clinton War Room Spiked by GQ
According to The Politico, Sen. Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign successfully killed a planned story in GQ that was "an account of infighting in Hillaryland… So Clinton’s aides pulled a page from the book of Hollywood publicists and offered GQ a stark choice: Kill the piece, or lose access to planned celebrity coverboy Bill Clinton."
The draft article "opens a curtain on the Clinton campaign’s hard-nosed media strategy, which is far closer in its unromantic view of the press to the campaigns of George W. Bush than to that of Bill Clinton’s free-wheeling 1992 campaign. There’s little left to chance. Hillary Clinton may have an [...]
