Christmas Exhaustion

Ah, but it’s a good thing. 24 fast-paced hours (with a few for sleeping) filled with eating, making cookies, exchanging gifts with one set of kids; the second set is delayed until tomorrow.  So, we get to do it all over again after work Wednesday. But, it was fun. And, I didn’t realize how big a 14 pound ham really was, until I started to carve it up!  For the past four-plus years that we’ve been traveling between our daughter in college up in Missouri, we’ve almost always stopped on our way home at a small, family-operated, smoked meat shop in North Arkansas (Coursey’s) and picked up ham, turkey and summer sausage to last us until the next trip.  Since daughter has graduated, we’ll have to find an excuse to make the two hour drive to fill our addiction to those smoked delights. On the post-graduation trip, we bought a full ham for Christmas.  Absolutely delicious and I have a marvelous bone with plenty of meat left for Black-Eyed Peas on New Year’s Day, plus two gallon bags filled with meat!  I believe some will find its way to the freezer, before we tire of it.

Phone calls placed to friends and family scattered around the country. It would be wonderful to be with each and every one of them, but phone calls and emailed photos help to bridge the gap.

Here’s hoping  you and yours have a marvelous day!

PS – If you look at the photo at the top of the page, you’ll see….SNOW! Falling on Lake #4, down the street.  Sadly, we were far from real snow weather around here, but the fake stuff is pretty nice, thanks  to the folks at WordPress. It’s actually falling on the entire page, but doesn’t show up against the white background I use.
