Do you see the name “Mike Huckabee” anywhere? Oh, they apparently don’t think much of him down in the Sunshine State…
A new poll in Florida shows Mitt Romney suddenly ahead by 5 points:The latest Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds Mitt Romney with a slight lead in Florida’s Republican Presidential Primary. John McCain and Rudy Giuliani are close behind in what may develop into a three-man race. It’s Romney at 25%, [...]

I assume this means there will be no more “the terrorists are coming” speeches from the White House, right? If we don’t need the money, the crisis must be lessening.
Bush to cut state anti-terror funds
Hi, Democrats. This is one of those things we call a gift from God. It’s one of those moves that ends careers. That wins you elections. That destroys your enemy. It’s one of those things that if we did it, we’d be paying for [...]

It’s gonna be a big, BIG, day. Or, will it?
Super Tuesday Might Be Super Confusing
Dave Helling, reporting for McClatchy Newspapers, writes: “More than 70 million registered voters in 24 states will choose more than 2,700 Democratic and Republican convention delegates on Super Tuesday, almost 10 times more than in all the primaries and caucuses so far. Before they do, they’ll be bombarded by TV ads, phone banks, campaign appearances and surrogates for at least eight major candidates, and by nonstop polling, punditry and [...]

EXCLUSIVE: CHENEY EMAIL MISSING FROM DAY WHITE HOUSE ORDERED TO SAVE CIA LEAK EMAILS
Among the sixteen days for which email are missing from Vice President Cheney’s office is Sept. 30, 2003, the same day the day the Justice Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation announced they were investigating who outed former CIA officer Valerie Plame Wilson. That morning, then-White House counsel Alberto Gonzales ordered [...]

I’ll say one thing for this year’s Presidential Campaigns – the frontrunners are keeping things interesting. At least their “associates” are!
Obama vs. Clinton (no, not that one)
Obviously, we’ve never seen a political dynamic in this country in which a president’s spouse also ran for the White House. On a related note, we’ve also haven’t seen a former president take an active and assertive role in his party’s nominating process, directly attacking one of his party’s leading candidates during the primaries. It’s led [...]

Use the comments. Do you agree with Carl’s take that we’re looking at a Clinton/McCain contest come November? I’m thinking it’s entirely possible.
It’s been an interesting month in both the Democratic and Republican primary season, one filled with surprises and not-surprises-that-sort-of-looked-like surprises. I figure this is as good a time as any to assess where things seem to be headed. First, the Republicans: [...]

Oh, my. I don’t always agree with Patrick Buchanan, although I find myself nodding in agreement with him more these days than I did five years ago. He pens a positively frightening picture of how we’ve ruing our economy and what we’re perilously close to experiencing.
SUBPRIME NATION by Patrick J. Buchanan
Since it began to give credit ratings to nations in 1917, Moody’s has rated the United States triple-A. U.S. Treasury bonds have been seen as the most secure investment on earth. When crises erupt, nervous money seeks out the world’s great safe harbor, the United States. That reputation is now in peril. Meanwhile, Washington drifts mindlessly toward the maelstrom. With the dollar sinking, oil [...]

The McLaughlin Group: The Economy Tanking
The panel of Mort Zuckerman, Eleanor Clift, Monica Crowley and Pat Buchanan on this Friday’s The McLaughlin Group sat down for a discussion on whether our economy is tanking and whether or not it’s in part due to Iraq…Mort Zuckerman paints as [...]
Finally, Some Good News for the US Stock Market
It’s closed today. That’s about the only “good” news in US stocks in the last few months, as this article from Friday’s NYT explained: “While the chairman of the Federal Reserve told Congress on Thursday that a recession can be averted, Wall Street sent Washington a different message: it’s already here. The Dow Jones industrial average [...]

Are you among those who got today off? It’s Martin Luther King day in the USA. As for me, it was a normal work-day. It’s always nice to see the days start to grow longer. It’s depressing when the 5 pm drive home from work is done mostly in darkness. We’re to the point in the winter (such as it is, here in the South) that the drive is now mostly in daylight. It’s an encouraging sign that spring is just around the corner.
This weekend was cold, though. The coldest couple of days and nights of the winter. Of course, we had booked a Christmas gift of a “Bird Watchers’ Weekend” – a room at a wonderful place on top of a nearby mountain, a pass to the nearby wildlife refuge and several books and pamphlets to help us identify the birds, a breakfast delivered to the room Sunday morning. We had a great time, but it stayed too chilly for us to think that walking through a wildlife refuge was going to be truly enjoyable. So, we saved the pass and promised ourselves to return when the weather is nicer. Still, we thoroughly enjoyed the shorter walks around the campus, a wonderful dinner at a new restaurant that’s part of the facility, and a breakfast that left enough muffins and breakfast bars for several more days. The facility is truly one of those “hidden gems” that makes Arkansas so fascinating. It’s the Winthrop Rockefeller Institute, tucked way on top of Petit Jean Mountain. It’s part of the University of Arkansas system, but accomodates individual stays in addition to the educational seminars and courses.
Now, down to business. Our kick off information tonight comes from nearby Missouri. Seems they have a bit of a problem with an executioner.
Missouri Executioner Had a Criminal Past
We’ve written before about the problems in Missouri with executioners — most notably, the dyslexic doctor who administered the fatal cocktail. Now, the New York Times recaps last week’s St. Louis Post Dispatch article about a nurse on the state’s execution team who had a criminal record and [...]
