Cool Car.

Trev the 100 mile two-seat electric car from Down Under

The Trev look might be a bit love-it-or-hate-it, but there’s no arguing with the specs: 0 to 60 in about 10 seconds, top speed of 75 mph, and a range of 100 miles per charge. Trev is being built by staff and students at the University of South Australia, and costs less than [...]

Next Door in Missouri

Strange things are happening. Very strange.

Missouri’s GOP Governor not running for re-election

This is an interesting — and somewhat shocking — development. The Governor of Missouri, Matt Blunt, isn’t running for re-election. Matt is the son of GOP Whip Roy Blunt. Nasty right wing family. Missouri is one of the ultimate swing states in a presidential year. Lots of speculation about why he’s not running at one of my favorite state blogs, Fired Up Missouri. Let’s just say [...]

Out Of Money

January 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Huckabee may be out of money, but he still has “Huck’s Army”.

Huckabee’s Foot Soldiers

A grass-roots effort launched by a pair of home-schooled 19-year-old evangelical brothers could become crucial to Mike Huckabee’s presidential bid. Meet the Harris twins [...]

The Economy

January 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Wall Street didn’t have a good day. Not as mad as some feared, but still a 125 point drop. The fed cut the prime interest rate 3/4 of a point today, but Wall Street didn’t seem to be overly impressed. The future?

The Fed meets again next week – expect another cut

The guy is coming unglued and is going to take us all down because he’s simply not up to the task. If the panic today failed to jolt people, that’s OK because next Tuesday the Fed starts it’s official meeting where they are expected to lower interest rates another 1/2 point down to 3%. This radical action is not going to solve the [...]

Take a break. Just in case you weren’t watching Countdown last night. They have a new, ongoing, segment…

Countdown: Bushed: The Economy, The Military and The E-mails

Because keeping track of all the Bush White House scandals is a full time job, here is the latest edition of “Bushed!“, courtesy of our friends at Countdown. First up is the economy, where global markets reflected the fear and instability of the American market yesterday. Today [...]

I really hope these guys are making this up. If they’re telling the truth, it’s another, huge, bit of ammunition for anti-war folks.

Iraq vets claim war crimes were ‘encouraged.’

On Saturday, members of Iraq Veterans Against the War spoke at an event in Watertown, NY, and charged that their unit commanders encouraged them to commit war crimes: “The killing of innocent civilians is policy,” said veteran Mike Blake. “It’s unit policy and it’s Army policy. It’s not official policy, but it’s what’s happens on [...]

Thompson is Out

Another casualty of the 2008 campaign. Fred Thompson made it official this afternoon. He’s out. No surprise at all.

Fred Thompson Drops Out

Fred Thompson has dropped out of the race. I was watching Fox News last night and Mort Kondracke was speculating about where Fred’s voters might go after an anticipated withdrawal of their candidate. Kondracke was of the opinion that his votes would mostly go to Mitt Romney, with some going [...]

Iraq and The War

January 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Iraq is still there. So is the war. And some of the optimism is being challenged.

Meanwhile, There’s a War Going On

Anyone still paying attention knows that one of the keys to the relative decrease in violence, in Iraq, has been the unilateral six-month cease-fire, called by Moqtada al Sadr. And he had been indicating that he would continue the cease-fire, when it expires, next month. That could be changing. As the McClatchy Newspapers reported: [...]

Nasty Tactic

Simply not fair. Sadly, there are those who will listen, eat it all up, and make a political decision based on junk.

Hillary Hater Makes Robo Calls in South Carolina

We’ve gotten reports from two TPM readers in South Carolina that they received a negative robo call this morning about Hillary Clinton. Here’s TPM reader RB’s description: “I am listening to a robocall smear against Hillary Clinton repeating all kinds of rumors from the Bill Clinton years, like an FBI agent said on inauguration day that [...]

More: Hillary Hater is DIY Robo Caller?

More about those calls. I spoke to Robert Morrow by phone just now, and he confirmed to me that he’d been making automated phone calls into South Carolina. “Absolutely,” he said. But when I asked how many South Carolinians he’d called, he wouldn’t say. He also said that he himself was responsible for the calls, not [...]

It Was Edwards

January 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Yes, John Edwards, the man most think doesn’t have even a long shot at the nomination, may have scored the most points during last night’s debate.

The Thug Life Of John Edwards

Last night during CNN’s South Carolina Democratic Debate, John Edwards came out swinging, but not at Hillary or Obama, he came out swinging for the poor, the middle class – for those of us who aren’t getting billion dollar bonuses for closing down US manufacturing plants. It turned out to be a Jerry Springer Show for political geeks, John Edwards kept [...]

Not even if the courts say they must. They really do think they can just play by their own set of rules.

White House Has No Comprehensive Email Archive

For years, the Bush administration has relied on an inadequate archiving system for storing the millions of e-mails sent through White House servers, despite court orders and statutes requiring the preservation of such records, according to documents and technical experts. President Bush’s White House early on scrapped a [...]

Not everybody enjoys a fight. Certainly not Jill, writing at “Brilliant at Breakfast”.

The night the Democrats snatched defeat from the jaws of victory

Mark yesterday on your calendars, folks, because on the observance of the birthday of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the first viable woman candidate and the first African-American candidate for the presidency handed the office to the Republicans….again. Frankly, I’m sick of the pair of them already. I want to lock them in a room where [...]

Turn Out The Lights

January 22, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The party’s over. Almost. Apparently. What will MSNBC have to talk about now?

Huckabee Campaign Out of Dough

Good news: the American Spectator says that Mike Huckabee’s campaign is out of money. Mike Huckabee is asking his senior staff to keep working for him without pay, while lower level campaign staff are seeing their salaries cut dramatically or [...]

Mike Huckabee retools

Mike Huckabee’s campaign for the Republican nomination has exceeded all reasonable expectations. However, he was never going to be the nominee, and the confirmation of that fact in South Carolina on Saturday apparently has hurt his fundraising and impaired his ability to compete in Florida. Thus, the Miami Herald reports that Huckabee is [...]
