Concession

February 4, 2008 · No Comments

My concession? Obama does have a big chunk of the youth vote. A BIG chunk. Thusly:

The loneliness of the young Hillary supporter

Georgetown undergrad Alex Joseph reveals how he became the loneliest guy on campus in “Confessions of a young Hillary supporter.” I offer a salute to the best-humored supporter of Ms. Hillary to make his voice heard before Super Tuesday: [...]

Digging Deep

February 4, 2008 · No Comments

Looking deep into the polling results, we find some quite consistent information:

No wonder Republicans are feeling pessimistic

At this point, there’s no apparent need to delve into national polls that have nothing to do with the presidential horserace. Most observers can pretty much guess the results without looking — Bush, the war, and the state of the economy are all pretty abysmal. But Glenn Greenwald pointed to some interesting data from the latest [...]

What Advertisers Got For Their Money

February 4, 2008 · No Comments

$2.7 million for 30 seconds of air time during the Super Bowl. That’s what advertisers spent. If viewership is any indication, their money was well-spent.

The Most-Watched Super Bowl Ever

The “fast national” ratings for Fox’s telecast of the Super Bowl are in, and they show the most-watched football game in history: 97.5 million viewers were watching the game, topping the previous record of [...]

For Political Junkies

February 4, 2008 · No Comments

Actually, all of you should read this. It IS important. Quite technical, but important to the political process. It all has to do with the way the primary rules are written and how the delegates are handed out. Here’s an AP report on the rules. I’d suggest reading it first , then tackle the analysis below.

Super Delegates To Determine Nominee

It can no longer be avoided: super delegates will determine the Democratic Presidential nominee this year. Here is the current situation: [...]

I’m Voting “Real”

February 4, 2008 · No Comments

It doesn’t mean I’d vote for her as President, but I am voting that Hillary’s latest round of tears was real. If not, she’s turned into one darned good actress..

Hillary cried again

If she’s tearing up for real, then it’s interesting and a window into her heart, shows she isn’t just cold and calculating, shows that she’s a real person with feelings, empathy, etc. And if she’s faking it, it’s also relevant as it shows that she really is just a calculating phony. Either way, [...]

Good Story

February 4, 2008 · No Comments

I don’t often stay up late enough to watch David Letterman, but this excellent clip has been passed around on a couple of Arkansas blogs today.  Absolutely nothing to do with our state, but a wonderfully funny (and true) story!

So, I Lied

February 4, 2008 · No Comments

So, I lied earlier this evening when I said I likely wouldn’t find much material to post tonight. There’s not much on TV, but there’s quiet a bit on the net. Like this:

Sex workers get ‘more business’ at GOP conventions.

This summer’s political conventions are expected to be “a boom in business” for “the sex and adult entertainment industries,” but according to one veteran sex worker who spoke to the Rocky Mountain News, the GOP conventions are “a lot better for the sex workers.” “We get a lot more business,” Carol Leigh told the paper. [...]

Budget Battle

February 4, 2008 · No Comments

The gloves are coming off over Bush’s Budget proposal. I don’t see much in the way of “smooth sailing” for this deal..

Bush’s Budget Faces Hostile Reception on Capitol Hill

President Bush unveiled a budget Monday that calls on Congress to continue robust spending increases for defense but proposes cuts or minimal growth for a variety of domestic programs favored by Democrats [...]

Did You Watch GMA?

February 4, 2008 · 1 Comment

I didn’t. So I missed this interview. Some of the leftist bloggers are screaming today. Oh, yes, this one has a video clip. She really DID say it this way…

Michelle Obama: ” I Would Have To Think About Supporting Clinton If She Is The Nominee”

This is what we do NOT need. Imagine if Bill Clinton had said that? Michelle Obama needs to [...]

Another Look

February 4, 2008 · No Comments

Here’s an interesting take on the political campaigns, sans true poll numbers.

Bumper Sticker Momentum

The sale of political merchandise on Cafe Press shows another indication of Sen. Barack Obama’s momentum in the Democratic presidential race. After being nearly tied two weeks ago in weekly sales (Obama at 28%, Hillary at 26%), as of last week, Obama has surged to account for [...]

Remember Gabe Kaplan? Welcome Back Kotter? Somewhere I have a photo of me interviewing him when the TV show was hot. We had similar hair. Click below and you’ll see him, along with another big name from the same era..

Not Fair

February 4, 2008 · No Comments

This sounds like something an ex-boss of mine would have demanded that we do on the air. It’s wrong. You don’t get any useful quotes out of it. And, it pretty much means you’re not going to be at the top of their “good guys” list. Not that it’s a journalist’s job to be friends with candidates, but sucker punches aren’t good, either.

Behind the scenes on the McCain/Clinton Fox News Sunday appearance…

The Washington Post’s Howard Kurtz writes about how the McCain/Clinton joint appearance came down on Fox News Sunday yesterday… “Advisers to Hillary Clinton and John McCain felt misled yesterday when “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace prodded the candidates into talking to each other after they had agreed to be interviewed separately. While McCain was being [...]

Sick Day Excuses

February 4, 2008 · No Comments

Since I was among those trying to gargle away a sore throat today, I thought it appropriate that I stumbled on this tonight:

The Best Excuses For Calling In Sick

Did you hear the one about the woman who couldn’t go to work because her chickens’ feet were frozen to the driveway? It’s not a joke — it’s an actual excuse given to a boss. Gone are the days when an employee called in sick and coughed a little to make the story believable. Today, [...]

Popping The Balloon

February 4, 2008 · No Comments

From one of the radio industry blogs I enjoy scanning, comes an excellent dismantling of one of the current arguments being made by the Huckabee team.

Huckabee Blames Bain Buyout Of Clear Channel For Romney Support

In an astonishing case of conspiracy- peddling by a major presidential candidate, Mike Huckabee is suggesting talk radio’s support for Romney is tied to Bain Capital’s takeover of Clear Channel Communications. Taking this kooky theory a step further, Huck even singles out [...]

Post Super-Bowl Monday

February 4, 2008 · 1 Comment

How many people were absent at your workplace today? Count me among them. Except I really did get socked with a super sore throat. So, I’m not really feeling up to knocking around the internets too much tonight. Still, I’m sure that I’ll find my fingers hitting the keyboards every once in a while.

I did spend a lot of time watching the cable news folks. Except for the possible “admission of guilt” in the Natalee Holloway case, (one of the three guys initially arrested was recorded saying she passed out - stopped breathing - and he dumped her body in the ocean. Nice closure to the store, except that he now says he was making it all up. The story that won’t go away.) it was all politics.

Multiple national polls show a Democratic race in flux, while GOP race solidifies

For all the reasons we’ve talked about many times, national horse-race polls tend to be of limited predictive value. As is the case in the general election, the nominating process is a state-by-state affair. A candidate can soar in national polls, but if or she is trailing where it counts, those national leads are meaningless [...]
