First They Torture

Then, they clean.

FBI “Clean Team” Scrubbed Torture Evidence For 9/11 Death Penalty Cases

They tried to “un-torture” the 9/11 terror detainees in an attempt to “ensure that the data would not be tainted by allegations of torture or illegal coercion” so they can seek the death penalty against them. WaPo: ‘Cleansing’ the case “Prosecutors and top administration officials essentially wanted to cleanse the information so [...]

Foot In Mouth

February 12, 2008 · No Comments

Looks like this could be another case of a Clinton supporter opening his mouth before really thinking. And, this time, it wasn’t Bill.

Key Clinton backer says some whites ‘not ready’ for black president

Looking back over the last couple of months, it seems every controversial remark from the Clinton campaign has come by way of one of her surrogates, not the candidate. Hillary Clinton, to her enormous credit, is extraordinarily disciplined, very bright, and loath to commit dangerous gaffes on the campaign trail. But those speaking for her, keep [...]

Thoughts From A Justice

Direct from the Supreme Court to your eyes and ears, via the venerable BBC. I’m aghast.

Scalia Defends Torture: It’s ‘Absurd’ To Say The Gov’t Can’t ‘Smack’ A Suspect ‘In The Face’

Today in an interview with BBC Radio’s Law in Action, U.S. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia defended torture, claiming that it is not necessarily barred by the Constitution: “Is it really so easy to determine that smacking someone in the face to find out where he has hidden the bomb that is about to [...]

And how you break out the numbers. Politics is, indeed, a game.

Drudge Misleading About Hillary’s Plight (Hold Front Page!)

Here’s a shocker - Matt Drudge has a misleading Hillary-bashing headline: POLL: OBAMA TAKES LEAD AMONG WOMEN IN MD, VA That links to this American Research Group poll showing us that, as advertised, Obama does lead among all women. But [...]

Only Words

But John Stewart knows how to use them.

The Daily Show presents: Torture Talk

Jon Stewart does a brilliant segment on the multitude of ridiculous and offensive positions the Bush administration (including Mukasey, McConnell, Alberto, Hayden and Bush) has taken on torture, i.e.,: waterboarding. It’s not torture, it is torture, don’t do it to me, we don’t torture—it’s classified—I can’t discuss it—water goes up my nose–swim lessons—it’s not [...]

And The Explanation Is…???

I’m waiting. Waiting for some of them to explain this vote.

Senate Votes to Give Retroactive Immunity for Telecoms

Let there be no doubt: a majority of senators, and a large number of Democrats, think the telecoms should not suffer the hazard of accountability for cooperating with the administration’s warrantless wiretapping program. Sen. Chris Dodd (D-CT) took to the [...]

Ready To Rumble

February 12, 2008 · 1 Comment

Put on the gloves and get ready to fight over the 9/11 Conspiracy theories. Maybe it’s just the weather, but some of this stuff is starting to make sense to me. Not saying I’m 100% in, but it does make you stop and think for a moment. Maybe two.

The Three Irrefutable Facts That Shatter Bush’s Official 911 Theory

Nothing Bush has ever said about 911 is true –nor is there a shred, a scintilla of verifiable evidence in support of it. Bush put forward a crazy conspiracy theory about a world wide conspiracy of radical Arabs and incompetent pilots. Not a word of it can be believed! Three indisputable, verifiable facts utterly disprove everything said by [...]

Yes, Indeed.

Three leading candidates — all of whom have had it pretty easy

Hoping to instill doubt about Barack Obama’s general-election viability, Clinton pollster Mark Penn raised an interesting point yesterday. “The Clinton team moved on Monday to shift the spotlight off the candidate’s short-term challenges and focus instead on “the long run,” in the words of her senior strategist, Mark Penn. “She has consistently shown an electoral resiliency in [...]

Flushing the Economy

February 12, 2008 · No Comments

The government has a plan to try to save homeowners, with the help of six of the biggest lenders in the country. I’m willing to step back and give it a chance. We just can’t keep going the way we have been..

We’re All Subprime Now

A continuing saga: “The credit crisis is no longer just a subprime mortgage problem. As home prices fall and banks tighten lending standards, people with good, or prime, credit histories are falling behind on their payments for home loans, auto loans and credit cards at a quickening pace, according to industry data and economists. *** Until recently, people with [...]

This made me feel as good as anything I’ve read tonight. There is hope!

Reaching 100 Is Easier Than Suspected

Living to 100 is easier than you might think. Surprising new research suggests that even people who develop heart disease or diabetes late in life have a decent shot at reaching the century mark. “It has been generally assumed that living to 100 years of age was limited to those who had not developed chronic illness,” said Dr. William Hall of the University of Rochester. Hall has a theory for how these people could live to that age. In [...]

The Democratic Discussion

It’s all focused on whether Clinton or Obama would make a better president. You have your ideas, don’t you? For the sake of good discussion, consider this very pro-Clinton post, but make sure you dive into the comments after you read it. Interesting debate continues…

Battle-tested

An important op-ed in the Baltimore Sun today from Joe Wilson. Joe provides the most incisive and compelling explanation why Obama is not ready for prime time and Hillary is. Read for yourself…”With the emergence of Sen. John McCain as the presumptive Republican nominee, the [...]

Another Election Tuesday

February 12, 2008 · No Comments

Good thing the votes are being cast way out East. Really strange weather around here. Big, loud, thunderstorms overnight, with the rain continuing through the morning. Temperatures were stuck in the upper 30’s, so the day seemed all the more miserable.

Ugh. Let’s just leave it at that. And note that Hillary Clinton seems resolved to losing today’s elections. And, that is not a particularly good sign for her campaign.

Is Hillary Finished As Obama Continues To Win?

For the first time today, word has been leaking out of the Hillary Clinton campaign for President that she might just be finished if she does not win Texas and Ohio during the first week of March. Today, Barack Obama is expected to easily win primaries in Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia further continuing his [...]

Torture and Execution

February 12, 2008 · No Comments

Ghastly scenario.

Executions May Be Carried Out at Gitmo

If six suspected terrorists are sentenced to death at Guantanamo Bay for the Sept. 11 attacks, U.S. Army regulations that were quietly amended two years ago open the possibility of execution by lethal injection at the military base in Cuba, experts said Tuesday. Any executions would probably add to [...]
