Boxing Himself Into A Corner

President Bush may be doing just that, over a favorite topic - torture.

Mukasey: If Bush Issues Signing Statement, He’ll Have To ‘Virtually’ Do The Waterboarding Himself

Yesterday, the Senate joined the House and voted to “prohibit the CIA from using waterboarding and other harsh interrogation methods,” approving legislation that would bring the CIA’s interrogation methods in line with the Army Field Manual. President Bush has threatened to veto the bill. If Congress manages to override his veto, Bush could issue [...]

Oh, My

This is not good for the Clinton Campaign. Or, does it simply show that the “energy” is still there?

Inside the Clinton Campaign

The Wall Street Journal provides a snapshot of life inside Hillaryland: “But the campaign has something of a shellshocked feel, as staffers privately chew over a blowup last week where internal frictions flared into the open. Clinton campaign operatives say it happened as top Clinton advisers gathered in Arlington, Va., campaign headquarters to preview a TV commercial. ‘Your ad doesn’t work,’ strategist Mark Penn yelled at ad-maker Mandy Grunwald. ‘The execution is all wrong,’ he said, according to the operatives. ‘Oh, it’s always the ad, never the message,’ Ms. Grunwald fired back, say the operatives. The clash got so heated that [...]

And political campaigns. For tonight, at least.

That Mighty Wave of Electoral Change & Why Hillary Clinton Never Saw It Coming

Hillary Clinton is a notorious control freak Fifteen years ago, that resulted in the Hindenburg-like crash of her national health-care initiative, while more recently it was planted audience questions. After years of meticulous planning, [...]

McCain’s Turn

February 14, 2008 · No Comments

The Clinton Campaign took it on the chin in the post just below this one. Now, it’s John McCain’s turn.

When push comes to shove, McCain was against torture before he was for it

It’s pretty obvious that most campaign reporters and much of the political establishment consider John McCain a man of unshakable principle. It’s equally obvious that this reputation is utterly ridiculous. Take yesterday’s vote on banning torture, for example. To briefly recap, a spending bill to finance the nation’s intelligence efforts went to conference, and. Dianne Feinstein [...]

Nice. They say the FEMA trailers sent to New Orleans are hugely dangerous. Now, they’re sending more of them to the tornado victims here in Arkansas, saying they’re safe. What’s wrong with this picture!

FEMA to continue trailer distribution

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Thursday it will distribute mobile homes to victims of last week’s tornadoes in Arkansas and Tennessee, [...]

Spectacular Fall

My, how the Clinton Campaign has crumbled. It seems just yesterday that she was the presumptive nominee. Today, following several political missteps, she’s in trouble. Trouble from which she may not be able to muster the political savy to recover.

I Hope the Clintons Will Face Reality

I wish Congress would grill Karl Rove as strenuously as they grilled Roger Clemens today. But I want to talk about something else. According to what I saw John King say on CNN and according to the Obama campaign, there is no realistic way that Hillary Clinton can catch up and tie or take the lead in pledged delegates. To do so, she would would have to win the remaining contests by an average of about thirty points. Now, Mark Penn, Clinton’s chief strategist, has issued a memo called The [...]

Clinton campaign considering ‘potentially incendiary steps’

As far as Barack Obama’s campaign is concerned, superdelegates — party insiders, lawmakers, and establishment players — should not dictate the party’s nominating process, especially if it means overriding the will of voters who participated in the party’s primaries and caucuses. As far as Hillary Clinton’s campaign is concerned, all bets are off. Hillary Clinton will take [...]

Since it is Valentine’s Day, I’ll be doing my duty as a good husband, rustling up some requested food, and just trying to take good care of my wonderful wife. It is, after all, her birthday, too! We seldom go out on Valentine’s Day, delaying a restaurant visit for the weekend, after the crowds have quieted.

So, posts will be limited tonight. Consider yourself warned.
