A Saudi Prince is set to one-up the world.
Saudi Prince Plans Mile-High Tower In The Desert
Plans for a mile-high tower in the desert, which would be twice the height of the world’s tallest building, have been unveiled by the multi-billionaire owner of the Savoy hotel in London. The building, masterminded by British-based engineers, will be constructed in a “mini-city” near the Red Sea port of Jeddah. The project, almost seven times the height of the Canary Wharf tower, will overtake skyscrapers planned or [...]

Absolutely gut-wrenching story out of Utah. My mind doesn’t allow me to even begin to understand how someone could do this. There is, as Hutch says, a special place in hell…
Man Throws Dog From Bridge In Utah
Sometimes I wonder why God allows man to continue to dominate this planet when I hear stories like this one. Yesterday, in Salt Lake City Utah a young woman’s dog by the name of ‘Seven’ somehow got out of the back yard and sometime later in the day a man in a red pickup truck was seen throwing ‘Seven’ off of a busy Interstate Highway overpass. What drives [...]

The fund-raising activities SEEMED to be going along in good fashion, but the Clinton campaign isn’t acting like a campaign with enough cash.
If Hillary wants your services, get cash up front
From President-in-waiting to deadbeat: Hillary Rodham Clinton’s cash-strapped presidential campaign has been putting off paying hundreds of bills for months — freeing up cash for critical media buys but also earning the campaign a reputation as something of a deadbeat in some small-business circles. A pair of Ohio companies owed more [...]

Just in case you’ve been under a rock. Or on vacation. Today was NOT a good day in Baghdad.
New Green Zone attacks.
The fortified Green Zone “came under fresh attack Monday, less than 24 hours after anti-American Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr told his fighters to stand down following a week of clashes with government forces.” No serious injuries were reported today, but at least “two Americans working for the U.S. government died in attacks on the zone [...]

Over spring break, I did find the time to catch up on a bit of reading. Got part way through Brokaw’s latest – “The Sixties”. Interesting read. And, coincidentally, as he writes about the assassination of Bobby Kennedy, I found updated information on the web, saying it just might have been an inside job. Some of the evidence certainly seems to indicate something’s not right with the “official” investigation. Surprised?
Evidence That the CIA Murdered RFK
A new BBC documentary supports the conclusion that the CIA planned and executed the assassination of Robert Kennedy. The new video and photographic evidence — the result of a three year long investigation –”puts three senior CIA operatives” at the scene of the murder. “Three of these men have been positively identified as [...]

Jack Cafferty had an interesting question on his CNN program while I was away. As always, Jack’s thoughts are great, but it’s what the viewers say that I always find most fascinating!
Age a bigger factor in election than race, gender?
Click the play button to see what Jack and our viewers had to say. FROM CNN’s Jack Cafferty: “While the Democrats sweat it out over how voters perceive race and gender in this election, maybe it’s time for the Republicans to take a look at how Americans feel about electing a [...

Here, my friends, is a darn good summary of some key events in the past day or so. Complete with some unbelievable video of what happened when the President threw out the first pitch yesterday.
And the beat goes on (Iraq, Clinton & Bush)
April is the cruelest month, but right now I bet the folks living in the Green Zone just want to get out of March: “BAGHDAD (Reuters) – A mortar barrage hit Baghdad’s heavily fortified Green Zone, which houses Iraq’s government and the U.S. embassy, police said, a day after Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr ordered his fighters to stand down. The Green Zone has come under intense mortar and rocket attack over the past week as Mehdi Army fighters loyal to Sadr have battled Iraqi and U.S. security forces in the [...]

We’re back, work schedule resumes, but there are unpacking chores that remain. So, look for a relatively light couple of evenings, posting-wise.
Much of the talk today was money. And the big, new, “improvements” to our nation’s financial system. Wall Street wasn’t instantly impressed, that’s for sure, although things did turn around at midday.
Paulson unveils biggest change since GOP helped create the financial crisis
Start holding your breath for the day that Paulson or the Bush administration bothers to use any powers that they already have to provide oversight. While the financial system needs plenty of improvement this is only a CYA by [...]

Just a few things I’ve been saving up. We’re still catching up. Let’s start with a fascinating robot.
And, some great music:
Some great TV:
And, more great TV.
A great bit from Olbermann:
And, if you’re ready for a cocktail, Rachel Maddow can help.

Kinda. Jetlagged. Tired. Sunburned. And, heck, we just went to visit family in Tucson. Recuperating after a typically flawed flight schedule (does ANYTHING run on time anymore?), we’re relaxing and trying to figure out when to unpack. I’m thinking Saturday. It’s closing in on Midnight in these parts, so let’s just say that I skimmed through Bloglines and noticed a few interesting posts, but one that was actually newsworty.
Siegelman: Rove’s ‘fingerprints are smeared all over this case.’
Former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman (D) was released from prison today so he can testify to the House Judiciary Committee about the controversial prosecution that led to his incarceration. In an interview shortly after his release, Siegelman singled out former White House aide Karl Rove’s involvement in his case: In a telephone interview shortly after [...]

As promised, it’s time to step away from the computer and put my feet up for a few days. It’s been a long time since I really did that. It’s going to be difficult, since I pretty much live with a computer during most of my waking hours. But, a break is needed.
A few things to tide you over:
ABC Seals It: U.S. Corporate Mainstream Media Are Over
If you had any doubt, this seals it. A more shameful display of “journalism” we don’t believe we’ve ever seen. As our friend Susie Madrack of Suburban Guerrilla just wrote in an email, about the new low for corporate mainstream media, appallingly displayed at the [...]
Cafferty on McCain ‘gaffe’: ‘What kind of leadership is that?’
Today on CNN, Jack Cafferty said John McCain’s confusion over Iran and al Qaeda poses serious issues about his leadership: “If John McCain makes another mistake like he did yesterday — where he got the Shia confused with the Sunni confused with al Qaeda confused with Iran — the number of people who want the troops [...]

Clinton’s path to the nomination gets longer, more circuitous
The NYT’s Adam Nagourney explains today that the Clinton campaign is looking at the landscape, and sees a difficult path to the nomination. The campaign does, however, have some key metrics in mind that, they hope, could make matters easier. “Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton needs three breaks to wrest the Democratic presidential nomination from Senator Barack [...]
By the way, if you’re in this neck of the woods for the NCAA Basketball Tournament, welcome! Enjoy yourself and the fine hospitality that (I’m sure) will be offered. We came here 20 years ago, thinking it would be a quick stop on our career paths. We stayed. It’s home.

It’s just so easy to play fast and loose with the facts, isn’t it, Mr. Cheney.
Cheney distorts Iran intelligence.
In an interview with ABC News today, Vice President Cheney said that Iran has perhaps resumed its program to develop a nuclear weapon: ”What it (the NIE) says is that they have definitely had in the past a program to develop a nuclear warhead; that it would appear that they stopped that weaponization process in [...]

Now, the airlines are feeling the pinch. We told you earlier about Delta’s “early retirement” offer to about half of it’s employees. The trend is spreading.
Airlines Dump Planes, Routes, And Workers
Airline mergers may be off the table, for now, but a major industry reordering is still under way as United, Delta and Northwest Airlines contemplate deep cuts to withstand skyrocketing oil prices and a slowing economy. Prompting executives to action: fuel costs that have soared by more than 20 percent since January and a heart-stopping drop [...]
