This is the most amusing story of the weekend..

My, my. From bad to worse.

I Have This One Figured Out

March 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

The longer the Clintons (yes, Bill’s on board this bandwagon, too) continue to talk about a Clinton-Obama ticket, the more the American people may begin to buy into it. Especially now that they’ve added in this urban vs rural stuff. It would be a “something for every Democrat” ticket. Or, about as close to that as you could get.

Former president calls Obama-Clinton (or Clinton-Obama) ‘unstoppable force’

What’s that old expression? Once is an accident, twice is a coincidence, three times is a trend? For the third time in the last four days, the Clinton camp is emphasizing, rather blatantly, the notion of a Clinton-Obama ticket. This time, it was the former president. At a small town hall meeting in Pass Christian, Miss. this [...]

Proving Again That He’s In Charge

March 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

No matter what the costs. No matter what the consequences. I don’t think Congress has done a really good job recently, but that have tried to do what the electorate wants them to do. This is one of those things. And the President thumbed his nose at them. And, effectively, at every American who thinks waterboarding is torture.

Bush Uses Veto on C.I.A. Tactics to Affirm Legacy

President Bush on Saturday used his veto to shut down a Congressional effort to limit the agency’s latitude to use harsh interrogation techniques on terrorism suspects [...]

Former DIA Director Responds To Bush’s Torture Ban Veto: ‘I’d Fire Mike McConnell’

Today in his radio address, President Bush announced that he had vetoed the Intelligence Authorization Act, which would ban the use of waterboarding and place the CIA’s interrogation program under the dictates of the U.S. Army Field Manual. In the past few weeks, Bush administration officials have aggressively attempted to defend the CIA’s torture techniques. [...]

It’s time. Spring forward. Consider yourself reminded. And, get set to confuse your body.

Daylight Saving Time: 5 Fun Facts

It’s Daylight Saving Time! So, tonight (tomorrow?) at 2AM, it will be time to turn your clocks forward (“Spring Ahead, Fall Behind!”) one hour. Yes, you’re losing an hour. No, it doesn’t make much sense. And if you’re at all like us, you probably have no idea why we have Daylight Saving Time in the first place. And so, [...]

The Iowa Connection

March 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Next time I call dad, I need to ask him about Rep. King. This guy would appear to be among the wacky.

Rep. Steve King smears Obama’s name says: the al-Qaida, and the radical Islamists and their supporters, will be dancing in the streets in greater numbers than they did on September 11

And you thought it would only be the walkie-talkie type Bill Cunningham’s of the Republican Party to smear Obama’s name and make lunatic observations about terrorists ruling the world based on it. Notice how comfortable he is with this rant. Is Iowa even embarrassed over his remarks? How many more times will McCain [...]

Tonight’s Entertainment

Oh, this is absolutely a “must see”…An entire evening of primetime television viewing. From 1964! Three and a half hours of ABC and CBS shows. Enjoy! There’s everything from the cartoon series, Johnny Quest, to the Addams Family and Gomer Pyle.

Network Nights (1964)

And, if that’s not enough for you, here’s something similar from a couple of years later! Lots of classic comedy in this one!

Sorry, but it’s tough finding much optimism about the economy these days. Let’s just go ahead and pretty much end the debate about whether or not we’re in a recession:

News Analysis: Seeing an End to the Good Times (Such as They Were)

If history is a reliable guide, a dismal jobs report suggests that the recession of 2008 is now unavoidable [...]

Weekend Reading

March 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Now, let’s take a quick journey around the blogosphere and see what the best bloggers are chatting about today…

We’ll start with an amazing allegation about Condi Rice:

Condoleezza Rice Was “Bombarded” with Warnings Before 9/11, Commission Biased Against Clarke

9/11 Commission staff director Philip Zelikow was not interested in pursuing criticisms against Rice [...]

Then, on to other things:

Spring ahead!!!!

Like my body’s clock isn’t screwed up enough. Anybody else get messed up when we change the clocks? (Hey – I still have to hold my hand up to figure out right from left so you can imagine what time changes do to me.) I suffer for weeks! Usually the first couple of days I play the “it’s 4am so it’s really 3am game” as I lie wide awake in bed trying to figure [...]

Clinton Still Talking Obama Ticket

Does it cause any cognitive dissonance in your mind when you hear Clinton continually suggest that she will pick Obama as her running mate even as she runs him down as unfit for office? Earlier Friday at a town hall meeting in Mississippi, where some in the audience were undecided or leaning toward Obama, Clinton raised the possibility that she might run with the Illinois senator on the Democratic presidential ticket. Clinton said: “I’ve had people say, ‘Well, I wish I could vote for both of you.’ Well, that might [...]

The story gets worse for McCain’s buddy Rick Renzi

For Clinton detractors, Norman Hsu is a huge deal. For Obama detractors, Tony Rezko is incredibly important. But where does Rep. Rick Renzi (R-Ariz.), a member of Sen. John McCain’s (R-AZ) National Leadership Team and a co-chair of his Arizona Leadership Team, fit into the mix? Renzi was, of course, recently indicted on felony counts of [...]

What’s Wrong with the Democratic Party

I have a very simple question for your folks and look forward to your comments and analysis. Why is the nomination process so screwed up? Instead of requiring each state to hold a primary, the Democrats rely on a patchwork quilt of elections and caucuses. The caucus may make folks feel good, but it is [...]

Delayed Saturday

March 8, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I didn’t get a chance to do my usual early Saturday perusal of Bloglines, thanks to an extra couple of dogs (yes, dogsitting again) who wanted to join ours in a constant parade of going outside to play in the snow, then coming back in (which means trying to wipe 16 little paws every time), then wanting to go back out a short time later.

It was, however, quite pretty earlier this morning, before the sun got to work on the snow. Not as pretty as west of here, where they picked up more snow, but we, at least, finally got a taste of winter.

Wide Open Security

I don’t think this quite meets the definition of “security”.

“Dude, That’s What They Want.”

From Wired’s Threat Level: A U.S. government office in Quantico, Virginia, has direct, high-speed access to a major wireless carrier’s systems, exposing customers’ voice calls, data packets and physical movements to uncontrolled surveillance, according to a computer security consultant who [...]

More like “abusing” those credit cards.

Consumer debt hits $2.52 trillion.

The AP reports: The Federal Reserve reported Friday that consumer credit increased at an annual rate of 3.3 percent in January. That was up from a 1.8 percent growth rate in December and marked the fastest pace since November. The pickup in January pushed up total consumer debt by $6.9 billion to $2.52 trillion. That was [...]
