Another Order to Ignore

March 18, 2008 · No Comments

You know they’ll ignore it, because there never is any punishment. At least the judge is smart enough to try; the question is a good one.  The issue IS important.

Judge gives White House a deadline on emails

This case seems to be a never-ending source of entertainment. The White House has three days to explain why it shouldn’t be required to copy its computer hard drives to ensure no further e-mails are lost, a federal judge ordered Tuesday. Already, e-mails between March and October 2003 appear to have been lost, Judge John M. Facciola [...]

Nice To Know

March 18, 2008 · No Comments

Our quote of the evening comes from Dick Cheney.

Cheney: The Longer We’re In Iraq, The ‘Better’ Iraqis Feel About America

Today, Vice President Cheney spoke to U.S. troops at the Balad Air Force Base in Iraq. During the speech, he defended the war in Iraq as part of the “long-term struggle” that “became urgent on the morning of September 11th, 2001.” He also argued that the longer the war goes on, the more Iraqis [...]

Inflation, Jobs and More

March 18, 2008 · No Comments

Good grief! Don’t these numbers shock you?  I knew Americans were becoming economically pessimistic, but THIS negative?

Inflation tops economic worries.

A new CNN Poll finds that 91 percent of the American public is “somewhat or very concerned about the rising rate of inflation,” topping their list of economic worries. Eighty-six percent are worried about jobs, and 77 percent are worried “about the drop in the amount off money homeowners get when they sell their houses.” [...]

Worried About An Iran War?

March 18, 2008 · No Comments

It’s not going to happen without a big ruckus.

Conyers: “If Bush Goes Into Iran, He Should Be Impeached”

John Conyers just finshed up a panel at Take Back America with words that were heartening to everyone made nervous by the recent firing of Admiral Fallon and the implications it might have for war with Iran… “If Bush Goes Into Iran, He Should Be Impeached.” Conyers also said that with regard to FISA, [...]

This Can’t Be Good For Service

March 18, 2008 · 2 Comments

I guess we’ll all have to start tossing our own bags into the belly of the Delta planes. I don’t see how you can trim 30,000 positions and not severely cripple service.

Delta Air Lines to *Offer* Voluntary Retirement to 30,000

Delta Air Lines Inc will offer voluntary retirement to 30,000 employees, more than half its staff of 55,000, as [...]

Troubled Economy

March 18, 2008 · No Comments

This pretty much puts things in perspective.

Corporate Welfare

E.J. Dionne finally says it: “Never do I want to hear again from my conservative friends about how brilliant capitalists are, how much they deserve their seven-figure salaries and how government should keep its hands off the private economy. The Wall Street titans have turned into a [...]

The Big Speech

March 18, 2008 · No Comments

Obama gave it this morning. On the issue of race.  Here are two pieces analyzing the speech.  One from the left. One from the right. Feel free to do the balancing act.

Obama Attempts Double Back Flip

Drudge Report has the transcript of Barack Obama’s speech, and it was just as weak as you thought it would be. Amazingly, Obama is sticking with the [...]

It’s high….it’s far….it’s GONE! A home run!!

Of course Joe Scarborough won’t think so. Nor will the other talking heads of the media and their managers for whom the status quo has been very lucrative; those who think John McCain should be our next president. But if this is the opening salvo in a conversation about race and religion that is long overdue, then Barack Obama has, if you’ll excuse my all-over-the-place metaphors, not just [...]

Not A Good Sign

March 18, 2008 · No Comments

Here’s tonight’s installment of “How’s It Going In Iraq?” Quick hint: a walkout is not a good thing.

Iraq Reconciliation Talks Hit By Walkouts

A conference to reconcile Iraq’s warring political groups began to unravel even before it got under way on Tuesday, with the main Sunni Muslim Arab bloc pulling out and protesting it had not been properly invited. Hundreds of politicians gathered for the conference a day after [...]

Stories That Must Be Told

March 18, 2008 · No Comments

Just go and read. Tragically, these are the stories that likely won’t be picked up and passed along by the mainstream media.  No matter how important they are.

If America listens to what they say, the war would be over tomorrow.

Again another story that many “progressive” websites won’t touch upon so as not to insult those who serve our country when in fact the opposite is true: Winter Soldier: America Must Hear These Iraq Vets’ Stories by Penny Coleman at AlterNet.org “One after another, veterans told conflicted stories, some with tears, some with rigid control, some with visible shakes, but all with hard-won moral [...]

Obama Withdraws Support for Marijuana Decriminalization

First Barack Obama was for decriminalization of marijuana. Then he was against it. Then he said he was for it, explaining he raised his hand by mistake at a debate. Now he’s clear: he opposes decriminalization of marijuana. What accounts for this latest switch? His campaign says [...]

Words Escape Me

March 18, 2008 · No Comments

There’s just no way to respond adequately and intelligently when the VEEP goes off on a tangent like this one…

Cheney On Iraq: “Successful,” “Phenomenal,” “Remarkable”

So Vice President Last Throes went to Baghdad to survey the awesomeness and this graf pretty much says it all: “U.S. Vice President Dick Cheney on Monday declared the 2003 U.S.-led invasion of Iraq a “successful endeavor” during a visit to Baghdad, on the same day a woman suicide bomber killed 40 people. Look, as Laura Bush famously said, Iraq is really going great — it’s just that one pesky suicide bomber that [...]

Rainy Days And Tuesdays

March 18, 2008 · No Comments

Some days are simply ugly. Today was one of those. Cloudy. Dreary. Rainy. Stormy. All rolled up in one package. Ugh. At least it will be out of here before thousands roll into town for the NCAA basketball tournament later this week. Yes, indeed, we’re hosting several first-round games Friday and Saturday.  Nice honor and we’re looking forward to showing off our wonderful area to all those newcomers.  Welcome!

Politically, there’s something truly ironic about New York’s governorship.

Will It Ever End

Looks like the state of New York can never catch a break. With the slimy Spitzer just barely out of office we learn this about the newly inaugurated governor of the Empire State. The thunderous applause was still ringing in his ears when the state’s new governor, David Paterson, told the Daily News that he and [...]
