Hillary’s Schedule

March 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

They released her schedule from the White House days, thousands and thousands of pages. Reporters have been digging through them, looking for anything interesting.  What are they finding?

Clinton Records List Numerous Health Care Events

By early 1994, then-First Lady Hillary Clinton had immersed herself in the issue of health care. Her January calendar was filled with health-care activities, including a keynote address at the Healthcare Leadership Council and a meeting with the head of Merck. When she left Washington, Clinton [...]

It’s just so easy to play fast and loose with the facts, isn’t it, Mr. Cheney.

Cheney distorts Iran intelligence.

In an interview with ABC News today, Vice President Cheney said that Iran has perhaps resumed its program to develop a nuclear weapon: ”What it (the NIE) says is that they have definitely had in the past a program to develop a nuclear warhead; that it would appear that they stopped that weaponization process in [...]

Now, the airlines are feeling the pinch.  We told you earlier about Delta’s “early retirement” offer to about half of it’s employees.  The trend is spreading.

Airlines Dump Planes, Routes, And Workers

Airline mergers may be off the table, for now, but a major industry reordering is still under way as United, Delta and Northwest Airlines contemplate deep cuts to withstand skyrocketing oil prices and a slowing economy. Prompting executives to action: fuel costs that have soared by more than 20 percent since January and a heart-stopping drop [...]

Huckabee’s Still Hanging Around

Still hoping, I guess.  Certainly still attracting attention.

Mike Huckabee’s Conveniently Missing Sermons

After Barack Obama himself, no politician in America may have had a greater stake in Obama’s critical speech on race yesterday than former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee. The former Baptist minister, after all, hasn’t been shy about his interest in [...]

That’s all we are, according to a fascinating piece from the British press…

Economic meltdown a GIGANTIC FRAUD – A PONZI SCHEME…..Steve Watson/Larry Elliott

From Steve Watson at Infowars: A leading economic journalist has described the current financial crisis as a “gigantic fraud”, the fallout of a deliberate and preconceived profit agenda to enslave the middle classes in a debt bubble. The economics editor of the London Guardian, Larry Elliott, has hit out at the global financial elite in a refreshing piece that marks a rare shift away from the [...]

If that was, indeed, the “plan”, it certainly seems to be working:

The Cafferty File: How is the shaky economy affecting you?

Despite the reassurances and rosy pictures being painted by those in DC, most Americans are feeling the pinch of the stumbling economy.   Jack Cafferty asked Americans to tell him how the economy is affecting them, and the outlook is decidedly less rosy. Ann from Newton, New Jersey writes: I am over 70 [...]

The Definition of "Arrogance"

Provided, quite handily, by Vice President Dick Cheney:

Cheney On Two-Thirds Of The American Public Opposing The Iraq War: ‘So?’

This morning, on the fifth anniversary of the Iraq invasion, ABC’s Good Morning America aired an interview with Vice President Cheney on the war. During the segment, Cheney flatly told White House correspondent Martha Raddatz that he doesn’t care about the American public’s views on the war: CHENEY: On the security front, I think there’s [...]

Not Once, But Three Times

March 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

John McCain had a colossal “oops” yesterday.  Actually, he strung together three of them.  All the same.  All impossible for the media not to notice. As Olbermann asked last night, “this guy wants to be our President???”

Al Qaeda gaffe dogs McCain, undermines campaign rationale

During a press conference yesterday, John McCain, a self-described expert on matters of national security and international affairs, made a very high-profile screw-up — he falsely insisted that al Qaeda terrorists are being trained in Iran to fight in Iraq. What’s more, he asserted without hesitation that this is “common knowledge.” Of course, McCain’s claim didn’t [...]

UPDATE:  Make it FOUR times!

McCain compounds al Qaeda gaffe by repeating for a fourth time

When John McCain got confused yesterday about Sunni and Shiite, Iran and al Qaeda, his campaign issued a statement insisting that McCain “misspoke and immediately corrected himself.” The explanation is far less plausible when McCain makes the same mistake and pushes the same bogus argument four times in two days. This time, in a statement from his [...]

Anniversary

March 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

It’s been five years.  Five years since we invaded Iraq. Jill has a spectacular post over at “Brilliant at Breakfast”. It is, as they say, a “keeper” and one you’ll want to pass along.

Five Years Ago

…It is five years into a war born of insanity, fought of insanity, continuing because of insanity. It is a war that has cost trillions of dollars, much of it missing into the black hole of sweetheart deals, cronyism, private military, and no-bid contracts — trillions of dollars that could be spent here at home to rebuild our crumbling bridges and roads, educate our children, invest in alternative energy, provide health care for all Americans. Instead, [...]

As long as you’re reading, Juan Cole’s pretty darn good, too:

Juan Cole: 5 Years Of Iraq Lies

Each year of George W. Bush’s war in Iraq has been represented by a thematic falsehood. That Iraq is now calm or more stable is only the latest in a series of such whoppers, which the mainstream press eagerly repeats. The fifth anniversary of Bush’s invasion of Iraq will be the last he presides over. Sen. John McCain, in turn, has now taken to [...]

Break Time

March 19, 2008 · Leave a Comment

We’re going to take a bit of a break. You’ll notice a slowdown in posts over the next couple of days, then don’t look for anything for a week or so. Nothing major. My fingers are tired. My brain is tired. We haven’t really had time off, together, for a long time.

So, there will be posts tonight – maybe not as many as usual.  Fewer tomorrow night.  Then, I’ll be trying to avoid most contact with a computer or the Internet for a week.  We’ll see how it goes!

Let’s begin tonight with a well-written piece that strives to explain our messed-up economy.

Everything You Wanted To Know About The Credit Crunch (But Were Afraid To Ask)

Raise your hand if you don’t quite understand this whole financial crisis. It has been going on for seven months now, and many people probably feel as if they should understand it. But they don’t, not really. The part about the housing crash seems simple enough. With banks whispering [...]
