Olbermann is on the warpath. Again.

Olbermann Wages ‘Nightly,’ ‘Indefinite’ Battle Against Wal-Mart For Suing Brain-Damaged Employee

Eight years ago, Wal-Mart employee Debbie Shank was hit by a semi-truck, leaving her severely brain damaged and confined to a wheelchair. Last September, her son was killed in Iraq — a fact she has to be constantly reminded of since the accident left her virtually without any short-term memory. Wal-Mart paid for her medical [...]

Well, now. An update:

Wal-Mart Backs Down, Drops Draconian Reimbursement Case

Go for it. And, by the way, good work Mr. Olbermann.

Rumors of a Massive Tunnel

Gotta Get It Right

April 1, 2008 · Leave a Comment

His Iraq batting average isn’t very good. I know it’s hard to keep all sides straight, and I’d certainly hate to take a pop quiz on naming names, but you’d think a guy who wants to be President might have a bit better of a handle on the knowledge than I…

McCain Gets Iraq Facts Wrong Again: Says Sadr — Not Maliki — ‘Asked’ For Ceasefire

Yesterday, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) said he was “surprised” by violent clashes between central Iraqi government and militias connected to Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr last week in the southern Iraqi city of Basra. “Maliki decided to take on this operation without consulting the Americans,” McCain told reporters on his campaign bus. As MSNBC’s Keith Olbermann noted [...]

Those Iraqi Jails

Another troubling report coming out of Iraq, written by the U.S. Military.  Yup, all kinds of progress is being made.

“Unbelievable” Abuse Reigns in Iraqi Jails

While Bush and his media toadies tout Anbar province as a “success” story for the “surge,” conditions in the city jail reveal a different reality [...]

Laws?

We don’t need no stinkin’ laws!  They were (obviously) made to be broken.  I guess that means it’s fair game for all of us to pick and choose which laws we obey….

Feds to bypass laws to build border fence

The Bush administration plans to use its authority to bypass more than 30 laws and regulations in an effort to finish building 670 miles of fence along the southwest U.S. border by the end of this year, federal officials said Tuesday. Invoking the legal [...]

Break Time

April 1, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Since most of the news is depressing, we all need a bit of a break.  Every once in a while. I haven’t picked up a “Mad Magazine” for years, but vividly recall the creative “foldins” they offered.  Well, guess what?  Say “thanks” to the New York Times for some marvelous memories!

Hold my calls for the next four hours, please.

It is all about the people.  Americans. Even when life ain’t what it should be and could be.  This, my friends, is the great American tragedy.

10% of New Yorkers on Food Stamps

…Naturally in this tragic story of manifest pain and outrage there isn’t a tale or quote from an actual human on food stamps, heavens no, in America human abuse is denied by well-fed experts, so although a reader will get confused they won’t hear a story of hunger, of opportunities lost and denied, of gut-wrenching wailing pain as homes are shuttered, families torn apart, relationships sundered as [...]

Exposed

April 1, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Well, this one certainly escaped my attention last week and over the weekend. It really is strange that more has not been made of it.  Or, perhaps, it’s not that strange, given the current sad state of journalism in the United States.

“Curveball” Revealed

Lost in all the hubbub of the past week was the news that “Curveball” — the mysterious Iraqi engineer whose bogus claims on Saddam’s weapons capabilities were used by Team Bush to justify invading Iraq — has been outed. Even better: He now says he never made those claims in the first place. Ooops.

Tuesday Talk

Man, that vacation delivered a delayed sucker-punch to me.  I felt like I’d been run over by a truck today.  The cruddy weather is, at least, partially to blame. More storms last night, followed by cold air today.  It’s not contributing to good health!  It’s supposed to warm up tomorrow and then repeat the storm cycle. ENOUGH, already!

I don’t usually link to multiple stories from one blog, but there are a couple of fascinating posts at The Democratic Daily blog today, linking to outside articles ANY analysis of them. Read on…

Late Night: The Untold Story of How the GOP Rigged Florida and Michigan

For everyone who’s had concerns about the mess with Michigan and Florida and those who knew there was more amiss than they thought, the HuffPo has the definitive read on “How the GOP Rigged Florida and Michigan,” written by Wayne Barrett who has been “a staff writer and senior editor at the Village Voice for 30 [...]

Did He or Didn’t, Does He or Doesn’t He?

Jeralyn at Talk Left has a whopper of a post outlining Obama’s role in a liberal survey dating back to when he first ran for office. Politico nailed Obama on the survey today: The evidence comes from an amended version of an Illinois voter group’s detailed questionnaire, filed under his name during his 1996 bid for [...]
