John Yoo.  A man with power and authority.

Post: Ashcroft Didn’t Sign Off on Yoo Pentagon Torture Memo

More evidence that John Yoo was the most powerful deputy assistant attorney general in the Justice Department’s history. The Washington Post reports this morning that when Yoo issued his now-infamous March 14, 2003 memo to the Pentagon, neither Attorney General [...]

Not A Journalist

Please don’t use the term “journalist” and the name “Matt Drudge” in the same sentence. Please. Never.

Drudge Hijacks Headlines to Sell Global Warming Denial

Atop the Drudge Report right now: Do the stories behind these headlines tell the tale that global warming alarmists have “hijacked” the political debate despite a “lack of natural disasters” and no global warming “since 1998″? No. Let’s review: DRUDGE HEADLINE #1: REPORT: GLOBAL TEMPS ‘HAVE NOT RISEN SINCE 1998′ This claim has been thoroughly debunked every time it’s [...]

Bumping The Economy

Are the tax rebates enough?  Probably not.  So…here comes:

Stimulus Package II?

Maybe Congress is beginning to realize that $600 doesn’t go that far after all. In the wake of a sharp rise in unemployment last month, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Cal.) is now calling for quick passage of a second economic stimulus package. No details on what Pelosi is pushing for, but consumer groups have some radical advice: Perhaps [...]

Surprised?

I’m not. After producing a documentary on teen pregnancy here in Arkansas some dozen years ago, I became pretty well convinced that it was going to take more than just saying “no” to realistically improve the problematic situation. Striking evidence of that comes from Florida tonight.

Abstinence education in FL leads teens to think smoking pot will prevent pregnancy.

The state of Florida has a strict policy of abstinence-only sex education. A recent survey, however, shows that this program may be failing, leading teens to believe dangerous myths about pregnancy and and sexually-transmitted diseases: “A recent survey that found some Florida teens believe drinking a cap of bleach will prevent HIV and a shot [...]

Things That Make You Go "Hmmmm"

April 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Settle back, dig in.  Another excellent post from Len Hart, who does a great job of following the details of key stories.

Bush Lies About 911: A Primer

As FBI Director Robert Mueller had said, there is no evidence to connect the ’said’ 19 ‘hijackers’ with the events of 911. That’s ‘no’ as in ‘none’, ‘nada’ and ‘zip’! And there is STILL no evidence to connect the ‘Arab hijackers’ with the crime of mass murder called ‘911′. Those who assert must prove. Bush asserted a theory in which [...]

When History Rises Up and Bites You

Pretty tough to twist and turn away from this little bit of history.

McCain voted against MLK Day at almost 50 years of age!

Check out John McCain trying to wiggle his way out of the fact that he voted against MLK day back in 1983. John McCain was born in 1936. He was how old, how old—hmmmm—let’s see…maybe 47 years old I think. He was almost 50 years old and he voted against MLK day! You [...]

McCain Booed At Martin Luther King Speech: Watch The Video

Senator John McCain, “who says he will court the African-American vote this year and campaign in places Republicans often shun,” spoke in Memphis on Friday to mark the 40th anniversary of the assassination of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. But his speech was met with boos and interruptions from many in the audience, as he apologized for [...]

That Long-Term Troop Presence…

Perhaps it’s not such a grand idea…

CNN’s Ware warns against long-term U.S. troop presence in Iraq

Of all the journalists who’ve been reporting from Iraq for years now, CNN’s Michael Ware has been one of the standouts, in part because he’s been willing to call “b.s.” against supporters of the Bush administration’s policy. In October 2006, after Condi Rice gave an upbeat assessment of Iraq, Ware told viewers, “Secretary Rice is so [...]

Torture Talk

The evidence mounts. This is just about the toughest talk from Turley so far.

VIDEO: Law Professor: ‘The President Ordered War Crimes’

Jonathan Turley: “It really is amazing because Congress, including the Democrats, have avoided any typed of investigation into torture because they do not want to deal with the fact that the President ordered war crimes. But evidence keeps on coming out – the only thing [...]

Reading the tax return tea leaves…

The Clinton Tax Returns

We haven’t seen them yet, but already speculation is mounting that the Clintons have made themselves a tidy little fortune in the last 8 years under the Bush regime. Financial disclosure documents already filed by the New York senator show she and her husband, former president Bill Clinton, have made at least $50 million since leaving the White House in 2001. ABC News investigative reporter Brian Ross takes an early crack at divining what details may be revealed from the Clinton’s tax returns, which her campaign has said will be [...]

UPDATE: Bill and Hill…the 109 Million Dollar A Year Couple

Who says public service doesn’t pay? Mark Halperin at The Page has the early breakdown on where the money came from. They did pay close to 40 million in taxes. No word yet if they think that’s their fair share [....]

Another Iraq War tragedy.

Yet Another KBR Rape Case

It was an early January morning in 2008 when 42-year-old Lisa Smith*, a paramedic for a defense contractor in southern Iraq, woke up to find her entire room shaking. The shipping container that served as her living quarters was reverberating from nearby rocket attacks, and she was jolted awake to discover an awful reality. “Right then [...]

Friday Night Frights

April 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

What seemed like just a run-of-the-mill storm last night became much more in the light of day Friday.  Our area suffered much more damage than it seemed at first. However, our neighborhood was just on the outskirts of the main path of the tornado and came through mostly unscathed.

Still, it’s a bit unnerving to know there is so much damage, so near.

In addition to the storm reports, this poll was the big topic of conversation on the TV this stormy Friday morning.

Americans Are Rightly Fed Up With Country’s Direction

How do you know when an Administration has utterly failed and driven the country into a ditch? Just ask the American people, who say they’re more dissatisfied with the country’s direction than at any time since the New York Times/CBS News poll began asking about the subject in the [...]

I was down for the count Thursday, thanks to some stomach virus making the rounds. Hope to get back on track Friday. Oh, that little tornado thing didn’t help much, either! No damage, but it was close.  VERY close.
