That seems to be the most common word around the White House these days. “No”. Not gonna give you what you want. I don’t think that would go very far if I’d been ordered to cough up some papers.
EPA Defies Another Subpoena: ‘It May Create Erroneous Impressions’
In remarkable defiance of Congressional oversight, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has flatly declined to respond to a House Global Warming Committee subpoena. The subpoena for documents relating to the EPA’s refusal to obey the Supreme Court mandate to regulate greenhouse gases was issued by a unanimous, bipartisan vote on April 2, a year after [...]

It’s been a long, cold, snowy winter up North. But was it bad enough to make people see a UFO?
Wisconsin: UFO sighting under investigation, trangular object observed by Deputies
Local law enforcement officials are investigating several reports from individuals claiming to have observed an unidentified flying object hovering in various locations across Barron County. According to Barron County Sheriff Tom Richie, the dispatch center received numerous calls from individuals at approximately 10 p.m. Monday reporting a possible UFO. Barron County deputies on duty that night reportedly [...]

I’ll have to give the ACLU some credit. It’s a tenacious bunch of folks. I’m guessing we’re going to see quite a bit of stonewalling before any of these records are produced.
ACLU seeks Gitmo death records
The American Civil Liberties Union Thursday filed suit against the Department of Defense in a Washington, D.C. federal court, seeking records related to all deaths of detainees at Guantanamo Bay. The suit, filed under the Freedom of Information Act, asks for all records relating to deaths, attempted suicides and [...]

You know…the one about how we’re gonna get bin Laden. That’s right, there IS a plan. Right? Ooops.
Bush’s missing bin Laden plan
To hear the White House tell it, protecting the United States and its interests against al Qaeda is the government’s top priority. It makes revelations like these all the more alarming. “The Bush administration doesn’t have a comprehensive strategy for eliminating Osama bin Laden’s sanctuary in Pakistan’s tribal region and preventing the region from being used [...]

Again. It’s happening.
But Things Are Going So Well!
Meanwhile, back in the War That Does Not Matter, the State Department is once again considering forcing career diplomats to go work in Iraq. As reported by the Associated Press: “The State Department is warning U.S. diplomats they may be forced to [...]

There are those who try to discount global warming. As this post shows, it’s pretty darn easy to discount the discounters.
Global Warming is a Scheme to Steal Your Money!!
Trust me, it’s all a big lie created by “Big Science” and Al Gore to trick a gullible public into funding useless research and investment in environmentally “clean” technologies, aided and abetted by the liberal media who are out to destroy our economy because they think capitalism is evil. At least according to the good folks who write letters to the Sheyboygan Press: “Why are politicians the ones promoting global warming while our national weather experts strongly deny its possibility? Is it because the Al Gores of the world are [...]

The best-laid plans…
Basra Update
Hmmm. Gareth Porter has an intriguing take on what really happened in Basra last month. He says that Gen. David Petraeus had his own plan for a massive U.S./British summer offensive against the Mahdi Army in Basra, but that [...]

It’s no secret, the gap between the rich and the poor is widening and what used to be a solid middle class is evaporating. How bad is it?
Marie Antoinette, Meet Angelo Mozilo
Here’s an idea. Instead of retiring when we turn 65, let’s go to work scrubbing tables at the nearest fast-food outlet. Sound good? Not to most of us. But it’s a future that U.S. workers increasingly are facing. America’s workers aren’t just losing their homes in what is misleadingly termed the [...]

1 in 5 Iraq and Afghanistan vets have PTSD or ‘major depression.’
“Some 300,000 U.S. troops are suffering from major depression or post traumatic stress (PTSD) from serving in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and 320,000 received brain injuries,” according to a study from the RAND Corporation. The study put [...]

Some kind of dustup on MSNBC tonight!
Steamed Scarborough walks off Race for The White House…
Tonight on David Gregory’s Race for the White House, Joe Scarborough and Rachel Maddow tangled for a split second. The comments in today’s Free for All suggested a knockdown dragout but after watching the clip, it seemed rather tame to me. Video here. However, this was followed by the Predictions segment where Scarborough explained what he [...]

At work. It’s kind of a circuitous route, but it’s there.
Polygamist cult gets millions from U.S. government
American taxpayers have unwittingly helped finance a polygamist sect that is now the focus of a massive child abuse investigation in West Texas, with a business tied to the group receiving a nearly $1 million loan from the federal government and $1.2 million in military [...]

Criminy. It’s slow tonight. Is there nothing other than last night’s debate worth talking about?
Categories: Uncategorized
This post comes from a decidedly conservative blog, but I’m finding some validity in what he says. Something about the big Texas child abuse/polygamy case just seems out of whack.
The 416 Kids Taken From Their Families By The State May Not Be Able To Return. Ever.
I’m having a problem with this….My problem is this: There is a presumption at work here that the families of all 416 of those kids were engaging in child abuse up to and including rape and molestation. That’s a pretty big leap to take under the law. Just throw [...]

It just about kills me to stay up past 10 PM. Is this what old age is all about? When she works a few hours at her other job and gets home after 9, we end up staying up late, talking and watching TV. I spend the following day in a fog. That’s where I’ve been today. Now, I’m trying to round up the energy to dig for the good stuff that I always try to find. Big topic on the blogs today was last night’s debate. I watched it. Most of the critics are right – it was not good. And a lot of viewers agree – just go read the comments on abcnews.com. And, consider this summary:
Does ABC love America as much as you do?
…Wow, major loathing of ABC on the Web tonight. ABC better cancel the welcoming ceremony, I see sniper fire [...]
And, the hits just keep on coming…
Worst. Debate. Ever.
Over the last year or so, we’ve seen debates that were pretty bad. We’ve seen a few that were embarrassingly bad. But at least in this cycle, I’m not sure if we’ve seen anything quite as train-wreck, cover-your-eyes bad as the spectacle on ABC last night. What may prove to be the last Democratic debate between [...]
An open letter to Charlie Gibson and George Stephanapoulos
Dear Charlie Gibson and George Stephanopoulos, — It’s hard to know where to begin with this, less than an hour after you signed off from your Democratic presidential debate here in my hometown of Philadelphia […]
Finally, one from the other side:
Send Charlie Gibson Some Love
Don’t know about you, but I was thoroughly impressed by Charlie Gibson’s evenhanded conduct of this debate….The man reminded us what a professional journalist is supposed to look like. And for that, the crazy left will criticize the shit out of him. Use the link to [...]
