Crude Oil Reserves

May 13, 2008 · No Comments

Good for them!  This might force a real showdown between Congress and the White House. It makes no sense to keep buying oil for this reserve, when we’re in such a gas price crisis.

House votes to stop adding to oil stockpile

The House of Representatives on Tuesday followed the Senate in rejecting the Bush administration’s policy of adding oil to the country’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve while fuel prices are high. The House passed legislation that would suspend crude [...]

Little White Lies

Behind the scenes of the Pentagon’s “military analyst” program.  Leave it to an email to provide a vital link.

How The Pentagon Propaganda Machine Worked: ‘are you telling me to tell a lie???? surely not! ;)’

The Pentagon document dump on its propaganda program reveals this interesting insight as to how the Defense Department worked with conservative allies to manipulate the media. In a Feb. 16, 2006 email exchange, Pentagon media staffers discussed coordinating with the Heritage Foundation to identify someone to speak about detainee treatment at Gitmo. An anonymous employee [...]

And, the results are quite stunning. We’re not talking about the West Virginia primary; we’re talking about the big dance.

Six Signs Democrats Are Going to Romp

The new numbers from the Washington Post/ABC Poll are remarkable.  They show an electorate that hates Republicans, has pretty much made up its mind, is comfortable with Obama and his message, and is paying attention.  Let’s look at some of the core [...]

Going Somewhere?

May 13, 2008 · No Comments

Flying has gone from bad to worse. Not even a snack on many flights now.  Maybe a soft drink or a glass of water. Tickets have gone up and the experts say they will continue to cost more and more. And the airlines are finding all kinds of neat little ways to tack extra charges onto your ticket, including $25 for each piece of baggage beyond the one allowed.

The fun has pretty much gone out of flying, hasn’t it?

Summer Flying: Fewer Passengers, But More Crowded Planes

“Sorry” Doesn’t Cut It

May 13, 2008 · No Comments

You can’t just say “I’m Sorry” and expect a  long history of bad actions to just “poof”. Not when there’s video evidence all over the place. Also, what about New Orleans? Still no apology for THAT statement..

Hagee backpedals, expresses ‘regret’ for anti-Catholic bigotry

John Hagee, a televangelist sought out by John McCain for political support, has repeatedly gone after the Roman Catholic Church, calling it, among other things, “the great whore” and “a false cult system.” “As of today, Hagee feels bad about it. John Hagee, the controversial Evangelical pastor who endorsed John McCain, will issue a letter of apology [...]

McCain on whether he’s still comfortable with Hagee’s endorsement: ‘I’ve accepted his endorsement.’

Earlier today, controversial pastor John Hagee issued an apology to the Catholic church for inflammatory comments he made in the past. But as ThinkProgress noted, Hagee has yet to apologize to other groups he has denigrated, such as the LGBT community. Asked today if he was still comfortable with Hagee’s endorsement, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) [...]

It’s pretty simple: this is not good news for homeowners. More and more of us are going to find outselves upside-down with our loans.

Home prices continue sharp descent

Single-family home prices dropped 7.7% in the first quarter in the largest year-over-year decline since the National Association of Realtors began reporting prices in 1982. The median sales price fell to $196,300, down 4.8% compared with the last [...]

Wow-zers!

May 13, 2008 · No Comments

I haven’t figured out exactly why I’m getting innundated with visitors who use AOL, but you’re most welcome to make yourselves at home!  It’s certainly a nice little spike in traffic and I’d  love to have a lot of you stick around.

That was a nice sight to see, when I finally dragged myself out of bed, suffering from nasty allergy/cough/whatever is going around.

Apparently, there are some little “rules” involved with those “stimulus checks” from the federal government. A lot of folks aren’t getting checks for the full amount they expected.  Tax guy on TV this noon says it’s “up to” $600 or $1200 - not a guarantee of the full amount.  Kind of a sucker-punch, I’d say.

And, how about this move?

The Bush administration tries to block Mad Cow testing by Meat packers

This is a very interesting battle: The Bush administration on Friday urged a federal appeals court to stop meatpackers from testing all their animals for mad cow disease, but a skeptical judge questioned whether the government has that authority. The government seeks to reverse a lower court ruling that allowed Kansas-based Creekstone Farms Premium Beef [...]
