With Eyes Wide In Amazement…

I’m astonished. Just glance at the headline and follow the link. It took a court order, but the report is out.

White House Report: Human Activity Is ‘Most Likely Responsible For Global Warming’

Yesterday, the Bush administration issued “the strongest endorsement yet of a global scientific consensus on the causes of climate change.” The administration buckled to a court order and released “a fresh summary of federal and independent research” which echoes the findings of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and predicts: An increased [...]

It’s really not that tough, adding and subtracting numbers.  School kids do it all the time.  Shouldn’t the man who wants to be president be able to?

McCain says we’re back to ‘pre-surge levels’ in Iraq. No we’re not. 2/3 of the surge troops are still there.

It’s kind of scary that John McCain, who keeps talking about how many trips he’s made to Iraq, doesn’t even know how many troops we have there. Yesterday, McCain told an audience in Wisconsin that we are back to pre-surge troop levels in Iraq…..Actually, Mr. Magoo, two-thirds of the surge troops are still in Iraq.
Let me walk you through this [...]

Response from the McCain camp? Condescension:

McCain Campaign Responds To Senator’s Inaccurate Iraq Statements: ‘So What?’

Yesterday at a townhall meeting in Wisconsin, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) claimed that troops in Iraq are already down to “pre-surge levels”: So I can tell you that it is succeeding. I can look you in the eye and tell you it’s succeeding. We have drawn down to pre-surge levels. Basra, Mosul and now Sadr city [...]

Maybe the voters ARE paying attention:

Poll: McCain’s Advantage Over Obama On Iraq Evaporating

With Barack Obama and John McCain battling again today over foreign policy, the question is worth asking: Which candidate is actually winning the argument over Iraq right now? The new Pew poll we posted on yesterday has some fascinating numbers [...]

We’re really not feeling very good about the economy.  Not good at all.  In fact…

Consumers’ mood hits at 28-year low

Consumer confidence fell to a 28-year low in May as inflation expectations soared, according to a survey released on Friday that presents a dilemma for the Federal Reserve. The Reuters/University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers said the final reading in May for [...]

Conspiracy?

I think McClellan is being upfront and honest in his new book, but there are some fascinating theories being tossed around the blogosphere.

Scott McClellan: What If It’s All a Ruse?

Could Scott McClellan ’s book, and the apparent outrage from his former colleagues, be an elaborate GOP ruse, staged in order to bolster McCain’s (and the GOP’s) message of bipartisanship? The repetition of some curious phrases from McClellan makes one wonder. McClellan was a true believer. True believers don’t turn on the cult. Think about it [...]

Hillary picks up another endorsement. You might be surprised by it!

Argus Leader Endorses Hillary

In a praising editorial South Dakota’s Argus Leader endorses Hillary today. The editorial is notable because it was to the Argus Leader that Hillary made her RFK assassination comments. The paper [...]

Sometimes, it’s all just too obvious, too transparent, and too ugly.

Pentagon Pushing 9/11 Trial For 10 Days After McCain Receives GOP Nomination

Despite the fact that defense attorneys for five suspected al Qaeda members being held at Guantanamo Bay have not yet received security clearances from the Pentagon that would allow them to participate in hearings, the Bush administration is aggressively pushing ahead with the prosecutions. The lawyers also claim that so far, they have had [...]

They’re predicting wide impact from the Nevada governor’s messy divorce. VERY wide…

Today’s Must Read

Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons’ still has two years left in office. But the practicing Mormon’s divorce is getting nastier by the day, and many GOP operatives are getting more concerned about saving their party than his marriage. The Las Vegas [...]

I guess we know now how Bob Dole feels about Scott McClellan!!

Bob Dole Tells McClellan: You’re A “Miserable Creature…Spurred On By Greed”

Bob Dole yesterday sent a scalding email to Scott McClellan, excoriating the former White House spokesman as a “miserable creature” who greedily betrayed his former patron for a fast buck. In an extraordinary message obtained and authenticated by Politico, Dole uses his trademark biting wit [...]

McClellan on Countdown

May 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

He got darn near the full hour last night with Olbermann. He comes across, to me, as 100% believable. Also, Keith proved that he can do a pretty darn good interview.

McClellan On Countdown: “Where Did Things Go Wrong?”

I suspect the right will characterize Scott McClellan’s extended Countdown interview last night as proof that he has joined the far left, but that the charge will ring hollow. They’ll have to do much more to discredit McClellan, because he’s killing them with sincerity and candor, while their attacks are just proving his main [...]

McCain and The General

Ah, yes, yet another example of a campaign spiraling out of control.

The U.S. military ‘must remain apolitical at all times’ — but McCain didn’t get the memo

In the coming issue of Joint Force Quarterly, an official military journal widely distributed among officers, the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff writes a welcome but unusual open letter to everyone who wears an Armed Forces uniform: stay out of the political arena during the election season. “The U.S. military must remain apolitical at [...]

Follies For Friday

May 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Ah, Friday. What more could you ask for. We’re on the cusp of the weekend and the day was filled with sunshine and warm temperatures.  It just doesn’t get much better than that!

News-wise, there were some tantalizing things floating around the internet today. We’ll round up as many as possible over the course of this evening, starting with this revelation:

Former prosecutors challenge White House immunity claim

Twenty former U.S. attorneys, both Republicans and Democrats, urged a federal judge Thursday to intervene in a constitutional battle over whether two White House officials should be forced to testify before Congress about the firings of nine U.S. attorneys. The former top prosecutors, including two who served under President Bush, argue [...]
