Finally found a few moments to wade through the wonderful world of blogging, and stumbled on a few things that really caught my eye. I know I’ve been bad about updating lately, and I apologize. Now, start reading. And, don’t be afraid to leave a comment along the way.
English Only Rule Aimed at High School Valedictorian
The folks of Terrabone Parish in Louisiana want to cultivate their image as being backwards. Their lack of values are showing. Now they are set to require all speeches be made in English after the Valedictorian included a sentence of Vietnamese in hers — she did so to honor her parents, proving her own strong values.
McCain gets ‘visibly angry’ when challenged on whether military experience prepares him to be president.
ABC News’ David Wright reports that when he asked John McCain to “explain how his Vietnam experience prepared him for the presidency,” McCain “became visibly angry”: McCain became visibly angry when I asked him to explain how his Vietnam experience prepared him for the Presidency. “Please,” he said, recoiling back in his seat in distaste at the […]
Bush Stimulates The Porn Industry With His Economic Package
When President Bush announced his economic stimulus in January, he bragged that his package was the “right size” and would “boost” the economy: I am pleased that this agreement meets the criterion that I set forth last week to provide an effective, robust, and temporary set of incentives that will boost our economy and […]
My goodness! What’s up with this? Another elementary school teacher who doesn’t seem to understand how to deal with a youngster..
Teacher reading a 5 year old the riot act caught on tape
A kindergarten teacher from New Albany has been suspended after she was apparently caught on tape berating a 5-year-old student for several minutes in front of the class. The boy’s parents sent him to school one day in April with the tape recorder in […]
This just seems completely over the top, in terms of the school district’s response. As I recall, several of my teachers used magic tricks to supplement a lesson, or just to help a class relax. Unbelievable. And, a student “traumatized” by the trick? Give me a break.
Teacher Performs Magic Trick, Gets Fired For “Wizardry”
Here we go… A Florida teacher performed a “disappearing toothpick trick” and a parent complained. The teacher was fired for “wizardry.” Substitute Teacher Says Wizardry Accusation Cost Him […]
Guess what? The big national education plan just ain’t workin’.
Is Our Children Learning?
From the Associated Press today: “The $6 billion reading program at the center of President Bush’s signature education law has failed to make a difference in how well children understand what they read, according to a study by the program’s own champion — the U.S. Department of Education. The program, Reading First, was designed to help boost student performance in low-income elementary schools, but […]
There’s no better explanation for where Hagee comes up with these outlandish allegations!

In a sermon given at his San Antonio, Texas Cornerstone megachurch that was telecast and available in up to ninety million homes worldwide, controversial pastor John Hagee, who has endorsed the presidential bid of Arizona Republican Senator John McCain, Jr., claimed that American public schools provide abortion services. Maybe he should worry about this. At least IT’S true!
Well: Sexual Harassment at School
A surprising number of students report being sexually harassed by their classmates. […]
It’s not happening for far too many of our youth. And that, my friends, is not good. In fact, it’s very bad. If you haven’t seen this report – these appalling numbers – you will be surprised. Our education system is in shambles.
No child left in school
I shouldn’t be surprised to see that this story about the appallingly low graduation rates in the cities of America is being underreported. Reporting this story is facing up to the ugly underbelly of America, and the way that the conservative backlash against the great liberal reforms of the mid-20th century has quietly managed […]
This seems a bit overboard, in terms of punishment, doesn’t it? I know we have to teach young people to “play by the rules”, but…
